Faulty equipment did not report fire. Turned into collections-nonpayment.

DO NOT USE SAFE HOME SECURITY!!! Safe Home Security is ripping people off!!! Our home caught on fire due to lightning on June 22, 2011, while we were vacationing out-of state. Due to a faulty alarm system the fire department was not contacted. It was a total loss. Safe Home Security was contacted on June 23, 2011. They have continued to bill due to a 30-month contract agreement. We have made over 25 calls to them in the last six months, even a service call to try and get someone to come to the now-vacant property. NO RESPONSE AT ALL!! We were promised repeatedly that someone would call us back which never happened. The people we did speak to were VERY RUDE! They have now turned our security and fire contract over to a collections account and have made adverse marks on our credit. As of today, even though they admitted having record of all our calls plus the fact that their system DID NOT notify fire department as it should, their remarks were that they would continue to bill and report negatively to the credit union. When told that we had grounds for legal action they said " do what you have to do". And so we will. I have never had a worse experience with a company in my life and hope that the word will be spread that Safe Home Security is ripping people off with faulty equipment!!! They have no concern for their clients at all!! I sincerely hope that their building and the homes of their top people are covered by one of their own systems! The person who I spoke to yesterday and today was named Terry (Terrence Rourke) and he stated that the decision came from the "powers that be".

This so-called company is like a bad COMPUTER VIRUS. Not a SAFE HOME with these worms !!!

I am looking for people who would like to be a part of a class action suit against Safe Home Security! I have had the same problem that others have listed.

The system didn't work!! My alarm went off and said that someone had entered my basement, I almost had a heart attack!! Only to find out that their piece of *** system had fallen off the door. On top of that, no police ever showed up.

I tested my system repeatedly and it never ever sent a signal to the police or safe home security. I called them, only to get no return calls. Customer service told me that someone would be out in two weeks to look at it. I live alone!!

I got rid of them and got ADT. I repeatedly have called them to ask to stop billing me. As of Dec. they have put it on my credit report.

Someone needs to do something about them.

I filed a report with the BBB and they never even responded to the report. Please email me at tamlow@***l if you ar interested in this class action suit!!

SHS robbed me!

Updated by user Mar 17, 2013

SHS is a bunch of lying crooks! This account eventually ended up on my credit report, and after numerous emails and calls, they blackmailed me into paying them a certain amount to "make this go away." I was so sick of them that I just gave in to their "shake-down" and...

Original review Jan 18, 2011
I signed a 3 year contract with SHS in April 2005. They installed an alarm system and the monitoring was activated.

After several false alarms during the first 2 years, I received a warning from the Police Department that I will be fined if any other false alarms should occur. After a long battle, SHS replaced some of the faulty parts on the system. After 3 years, the contract quietly renewed itself without any notice to me. I wanted to cancel it after the initial term because of the problems I was having during that time.

Upon installation of the system, the technician informed me that SHS sends out a notice of the renewal in advance, which proved to be false in the end. In March 2010, there was a burglary at my residence. I suffered severe damage and losses during that incident. (Around $20000.00, plus some irreplaceable items.) During the investigation, the investigating officer triggered the alarm and SHS responded via a phone call.

They were informed of the break-in at that time. In their mission statement on the SHS website, they make several claims about customer service and how concerned they are about their customer's safety and security. However, after being informed about the break-in, they did not have the courtesy to inquire about my situation. I realized that the system was useless, and I called SHS to inquire about an upgrade.

I was quoted another $500.00 to upgrade the system for better protection of my family and property. I was willing to go ahead with the upgrade and get it done. I was about to leave town, and had to get it done ASAP. My family was terrified to stay alone in the house while I was out of town.

My wife called several times to get the technician to do the upgrade. The response from them was pathetic, and at one point he just hung up the phone while my wife was trying to set up a time for the installation. I found that extremely rude and offensive. That was no way to treat a paying customer.

She called the company's office again and requested another technician. Again, no timely response from them. I was forced to find some other way to protect my family and my property. I contacted another company and within 24 hours, I had a new system installed and I could leave town knowing that my family and property was safe.

Upon my return, I cancelled the deduction order at my bank and I sent SHS a letter to explain my reasons. They had broken the contract when they failed to provide me with reasonable service and protection, or any kind of action form their side. Me family and property was left defenseless when I needed them most. I honored my part of the contract for 5 years by paying on time every month.

They proved that they are only interested in my money, and contrary to their mission statement, their customer service is pathetic. SHS kept on harassing me for the rest of the contract term. Not once did they show any concern for the safety of my family or my property. It was all just about the money.

I recently contacted a consumer lawyer, and I discussed the matter with him. He confirmed that SHS breached the terms of the contract by their failures to respond to my concerns, or to provide me with a reasonable service.

He also advised me to file this complaint with the BBB for alternative action. I made the payments during those 5 years in a timely fashion, and they did not honor their part of the contract, by providing me with a reasonable service that I paid for.

I opened a consignment store in July. Gerome Rogers, President of SHS sat with me to talk about the security system.

I told him I didn't know if I would even be open for a year, that I had limited funds and could not afford to do it. He offered for me to try it for free for 3 months and if I didn't want to keep it, I could cancel it no problem. He said it would be a year contract. After a couple of months I had not even turn it on.

I tried to call him about 10 times and I would just get his answering machine and he would not call back. I started to see $35.00 a month being taken out of my account, which I was not informed there would be any automatic withdrawals from my account. The way he got my account was that I had to give him a check for $30.00 to begin service. So he scammed me getting my account no that way.

As I started to panic that I had been scammed, I found my contract and saw that it said 3 yr contract. I would never had signed a 3 year contract. I finally contacted him and he said he would give me a new contract for one year. This was 4 months ago and he has promised he would send it out 3 times, but I have received nothing.

I think this company needs to be looked at and I think we all need to start some kind of lawsuit to reclaim our stolen money from this company. Who has a story and who is with me...Diane

It me again. I just went to my bank and put a block on SHS from taking $35.00 out of my account.

I cannot get in touch with this company to come and uninstall the system.

I have also filed a complaint with BBB to investigate SHS and put a stop to them so they cannot continue to rob people like this. I am struggling to make my rent every month.

I am a new small business owner and I am shock this company is still out there taking advantage..I mean stealing, from people.

My friend just had a shs alarm installed and his home was recently broken into and his stash of money stolen. The only people that had ever been in his home, besides me, was shs.

It looks as though they came back, knowing that they had the alarm passcode, and took the only thing he had, cash. He is a business owner and didn't deserve this.

I agree and am facing the same problem.

Safe Home Security will not stop charging my bank account

I had a contract with Safe Home Security, my 3 year contract was up in November 2009. They were notified by mail in July 2009 not to renew my contract. They have continued to charge my account, I have sent several letters and made several phone calls. They are still making the automatic withdrawals from my bank account. My bank account is now closed due to unauthorized charges, the same bank account that they are doing automatic withdrawals. I sent a letter to notify them and they letter was returned as undeliverable. Unfortunately, when they attempt to make the withdrawal the bank will probably honor it and charge me a bad withdrawal charge. Oh, I have not lived in the house for over a year.

They 're very careless with customers service. After several e-mails of cancellation at the end of our contract they kept charging us over and over again.

We then forward the same e-mail to another representative who also never cancel the contract. At the end of everything we ended paying for a service that did not use for a period of six months. The customer service is sucks! their representatives never took the time to inform us that the first e-mails were never received during that time.

Which shows me inresponsabilidad with the client. I am not satisfied with their service..Bunch of thieve

Guest

I sent the request to cancel in a timely manner and have talked to them several times. I offered to send another copy of my original request, they did not want a copy of my original request.

I have spoken with customer service and what they said was a manager, several times - no one would do anything.

There have been a lot of phone calls and mail correspondence. I have tried everything I could think of more times than it should take.

Guest

I would highly recommend speaking to their customer service department. Ask for a manager if you don't like the resolution. If you did what you said you did, you are in rights to cancel, and the account will be closed.

Guest

I will go on record stating I do work for SHS as a technican and have done so for 2 years having been in the industry for 7 years. First and foremost the company is not perfect and has many faults. With that out of the way let's look a t some facts.

1. Business are in business to make money not lose it, if they weren't they would be a charity. If you were an electrician and hung a light in somebodies house 5-10 years ago and they called you out to replace it for free because it "stopped working" you would laugh at them.

2. "Extended Warranty" Read a contract before signing it and don't take anybodies word for it (I'll reference this again) On the back it clearly states (well maybe not that clearly but its there) the warranty is limited to poor workmanship and faulty equipment and it covers a 90 day period which is thereby "extended: by the warranty fee, this does not cover anything else up to and including normal wear and tear. If you don't like it try calling ADT they will give the same song and dance and charge the same if not more to replace same components in same said condition. Again making money not a charity.

3. Renewals - Again read the contract front page second section says it will automatically renew without action from either party. Again take no one's word for it. For those who try to cancel on time but get stiffed one way or the other understand this is a pretty common tactic for most companies who use renewing contracts and you have to protect yourself, my mom used to call CYA (Cover Your ***!) make sure you send the cancellation letter in various forms with as much receipted proof you can get. I'm not saying this is acceptable I'm just saying it's common and not a unique issue.

4. EFT (or Auto-debit) Look I understand this is an easy form of payment but come on people its retarded. If you have to do it use a credit card, credit cards are easily canceled and replaced. To stop auto-debit on a checking account once started you literally have to close you're account and open a new one. Seriously a pain in the butt.

5. Service - This one hits home for me because this is my area. It's hard to say exactly what the problem specifically is. Like with other companies (i.e. ADT) some people have great service and others have lousy service, it comes down to the local reps and techs in your area if you have lousy techs you'll get lousy service and the reverse. My first suggestion to any new customer is "first impressions" are the best. If the initial installation is not satisfactory either due to the work performed or the customer service chances are your future service wont be great (not true in all cases but can be generalized) and you should probably rethink the whole thing.

All that being said be pro-active in caring for your system. I cant express how many people dont take an interest in their system a first and wonder why it doesnt seem to work properly. If your getting a new system installed dont be afraid to demand quality work (you are paying for it) and remember also that large companies like SHS, ADT etc. have thousands and tens of thousands of customer being rude all the time which breeds a kind of apathy. While there is something to be said for "The Customer is always Right" my Mom always said "Honey catches more flies".

And in closing remember this, most large security companies come with the same headaches and the smaller ones tend to get bought up or go out of business. You're best bet is compare and find the company that is going to give you the most bang for your buck initially and then switch companies (or threaten to switch, this usually works great around renewal time!) as needed.

Always Safe Home Security is a Scam!!!!!!!!!!

They install a security system that they never intend to monitor. They have a computer generated dialer that calls daily until they find their next victim. The message says that if you press 9 you will be taken off the calling list, but of course that doesn't work either. Sometimes they say their name is "Always Safe Home Security", and sometimes they say their name is Monitronics. There is never a manager available to talk to. I have asked them many times to put me on their do not call list, but the computer generated calls keep coming every day.

Please, do not get involve in this scam, this is not real, i believe there is something behind all this, long time ago somebody offer me to come to my house and get the payment.(unprofecional) Please don't listen to them, it is scam

Guest

I have the same problem. Monitronics, alias "Always Home Security", calls my home phone every day.

I have spoken to many of their employees and they are incapable of stopping the computer generated calls. If they can't operate their phone equipment, how can they operate security systems?

What a lame company. :(

Safe Home Security scammed me on contract

Safe Home Security told us we had a 5 year contract but we remembered signing a 3 year contract. We called back again to inquire and they said it was 5 years but this time they said they could pull the conract if we needed them to. We found ours and they found it as well and we were right .. 3 years.. but they then informed us that we were a few days short of our 60 days notice to end our contract so we were therefore auto-renewed! Really... they had an error in their computer system but mysteriously found it just days after they knew they had us. Never mind the fact they told us we had 5 years at first. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB and the state of their home office as well.

Ok you are right ....What I forgot to say is that they are charging me and not getting the money so I feel harrassed just because they keep calling and the bill is steady going up for nothing. I cancelled the contract a long time ago...when will they realize it.

I had a similar problem and I demanded a manager and then stopped payment. They eventually got the hint.

Safe Home Security - THIEVES

I signed a 5 year contract with safe home security in 2006. My contract is set to expire on 12/23/11. On 11/14/11 a rep from Safe Home called to aske me if I wanted to renew my contract (which I have already tried to do on numerous occasions since I don't live in that home anymore). When I told her I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT want to renew, she said 'oh well, since you did not provide a cancellation notice within 60 days of your policy expiration, it has automatically been renewed for another year." 1st - when I signed the contract - there was a clear begin & end date. It is supposed to end on 12/23/11 and I have no idea why they are not honoring this end date?! 2nd - if they already renewed my contract why was some *** little twit calling to ask if I wanted to renew. And 3rd....I DO NOT WANT TO RENEW and I provided them in writing 43 days prior to my contract expiring. This is the biggest load of BS I have ever heard of. What reasonably prudent person can remember the fine print of a contract that was signed 5 years ago? Why isn't giving them 43 days notice enough time?! I am so flabbergasted and infuratiated. I can barely type this complaint and I want to know if anyone else has had success in gettig thier contract to end on the date your actual contract ended????

Won't stop billing when we try to terminate service.

We want to terminate their service but they won't let us!! They keep drafting our account even though we have a copy of the fax turning in our termination request!!! We have contacted our bank and they have stopped payment but only for a few months so they can investigate. These people are crooks and liars!!!! DON'T USE THEM FOR YOUR SECURITY COMPANY!!!!! BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE it looks like we're not the only ones who have this issue with Safe Home. I don't know how this company stays in business. They won't return calls unless your going to buy. They just get you to sign on the bottom line and then they have you!

They have not cancelled and have just billed me another month. They said they needed it in writing and they have it in email and through the Better Business Bureae, but still charge my account unlawfully.

Contact Customer Service regarding your issues. Speak to a manager if need-be.

Often, Safe Home Security uses authorized dealers/sub contractors to sell and install their product, so the corporate office may not have known what was/was not supposed to be installed. Not excusing the fact that it wasn't handled correctly, I just know from first hand experience that it could have been why.

Safe Home is making significant strides in improving their customer relations. This may be the best time to resolve this.

i have also put this in my moms home she is 87 and the life alert has saved her life 3 times.

when they came out they where polite and they showed me everything and when everything was said and done i was vary happy they have kept up on there end of the deal thanks ALOT safe home.

technician you are a liar and you know it!.he doesnt even pay his sub contractors. they hate the company.

he uses any sub contractor he can find until they hate him and leave. technician-you know this company sucks!! i believe i may have a way out of safe homes contracts.they promise a weekly check of your system and that they will inform the customers if something is wrong with their system. not only do they NEVER EVER check on this(i have seem over 50 examples of this where customers were not even connected and still no call from scam home)check if your contract states weekly test.

and they have the balls to charge back their dealers if no test is received the first week. the owner is a thief.he robs every dealer of their hold back money.every customer has told us they hate them.they are rude.they never call back. he treats his employees like dogs.literally. he has skeletons and even has the business in his wifes name.

many! people in the business can not stand the owner dave roman.

I switched over service from ADT and I am so very sorry I did. Switched service on April 1 2012, they have received payment every month and still no service.

Now i'm taking them to court. Anyone out there don't be fooled by this company. They are the biggest ripoff on the market!

I would rather pay these jerks the $30 than keep them. Back to ADT I go!

The first two comments are obviously from Safehouse corporate. My experiences have been horrible.

It would take pages for me to document the horror story that Safehouse has been for my businesses. In 28 years in business they have been the biggest scam I have encountered and I have seen a few!! Run from their self renewing contracts and promises of service you never get. Kind of like watching Goodfellows, alarm doesnt work?

Pay Me, need service you are not getting? Pay me, getting total runaround from reps? Pay Me,

Alarm hasnt worked in over a year and reps never show up?

Pay Me. There must be some honest alarm companies out there somewhere.

My guess is you work for SHS and are posting here in an attempt to make them look better than they really are. My 4 years with them has been the exact opposite of what you describe. No customer service, no calls returned, system that didn't work correctly for years.

I second Paul's comment. This person was hired by SHS to post positive or neutral comments about it in an effort to help boost their rating.

But it's not working. Too many people are dissatisfied with this company's performance. It doesn't matter that the company is big, the way they treat their customers is unacceptable. when you sign a contract with SHS you might as well be in a deal with the devil.

There is no way out for you. That is un-American!!!

System and customer service are incapable of satisfaction

Issues during the first year or so, we had the alarm go off and no one called to let us know. So we called the company but that took several minutes and eventually we were told that the system was not communicating with them and they would send someone out. But what I want to know is all those months we paid how many months was I paying for nothing. After that the alarm was useless to us, we never felt secure. We had a credit card expire and then got a decline bill then we paid and we were charged for three months when it should have been two. So we called a rep said ok we wont charge you for the month coming up, but we recieved a bill with a late payment warning and could never get any one o the phone since they are only open while you are at work. Anyway we got that handled but were again charged for two months so we have had issues with charges now for going on 7 months, so now we are going to call in instead of giving them credit cards and bank accounts. Then we have had the alarm go off three different times so I called and asked why we never recieved a call and he said nothing is instantaneous. So I assume if someone breaks in they have time to make me turn it off without the company ever knowing. But then he proceeded to tell me that there was something we could by and that would be an extra fee. During this call I was told that maybe it wa user error how when they didnt even get the alarm communication on their part. All I say is if you are going to get a system avoid this company. We have no way of getting out of paying 40 a month for a system we don't even feel safe with. We have had other issued but I am too exhausted to keep dealing with this situation can't wait till our contract is over.

Also, you mentioned they are only open during when you work? So you work 24/7 I'm guessing?

As their office hours are from 8am-8pm, and they have standby techs at all times when you call in. Try researching things before you wildly make statements.

As a consumer of Safe Home Security, I'm trying to understand where you are coming from, but it seems like you don't have your facts straight.

Did you know that the monitoring stations only monitor emergency signals? They only call when the alarm goes off, not when you have a loss of signals. That is why you are supposed to test your system every month. To find out if there are any issues with it.

As for saying that somebody could break into your home and have you disarm it before they call is an absurd statement. There is an emergency duress code that you can put into your alarm, and it disarms it, but still sends and emergency signal to them. This shows them there is an armed intruder and they immediately dispatch the police to your home. You are like the many people on this website. You don't research things before getting them, you don't ask questions, and you blame everyone else for the problems.

My wife and I have been very pleased with their service and will recommend it too all of our friends and family.

I actually used to work for this company as a collector, eventually terminated my services as the billing was way to unfair. i know exactly how you feel.

Up for renewal vs. Automatically renewed

I contacted Safe Home about switching from land line to cellular services since we are trying to cut down on bills. The agent advised me I'm "up for renewal" and she can switch me to cellular services for an additional $15/month "if I renew for an additional 5 years". This perked my interest as I also just realized per my contract I am "automatically renewed for 36 months after my initial 36 month agreement", even though the technician said I would be on month to month once my 36 month commitment was fulfilled. I really want to cancel my services as right now every penny helps. Is it just wishful thinking that I am "up for renewal" in which i would think I can send a cancellation letter. I'm not sure how I'm "up for renewal" if they automatically renew the contract after the initial 36 month agreement....any info would be greatly appreciated.

SAFE HOME SECURITY

We paid in advance for home security 3 years which he said afterwards would go to monthly. After cancelling we were informed they sub it out or something to Safe Home Security. They continue to bill called 11 times to one guy and wrote/email etc. Safe Home Security is trying to say we sign a contract with them and we are asking for proof, all we get is you were suppose to cancel 60 days prior and continue to bill us threating to turn us in to collection. I can not find anything on the paper we signed and the guy told us monthly after we paid 3 yrs upfront. Where is help for consumer tried BBB but not with them they said and they wrote them but no reply. HELP dont wanna paid 150 for a lawyer to look at it. lisaspainhour46nc@***.com

The same thing is happening to me. :( They are insane. I am filing Small Claims if they don't end my contract when it is supposed to end on 12/23/11.

Greatest Resolution Department Ever

I had a five year agreement with Safe Home Security at my previous home in North Carolina. Unfortunately, like many of you on this website, I didn't read my contract before signing it. I shortly realized after that it is OUR fault for not reading the contract. If the salesman tells you something, make sure you get it in writing, otherwise it won't happen. We had to sell our home after only one year of the agreement and move into an apartment that was significantly smaller. Our daughter moved off campus to an apartment of her own, so we didn't need such a large home any longer. The apartment we wanted to move into didn't allow the alarm system to come with us, so we tried to cancel our agreement. After calling in to cancel we found out that the only way to cancel was to send in a letter 60 days before the end of the agreement. I couldn't believe this, I thought that was the biggest scam ever. Forcing us to pay for something we can't use. Thankfully the resolutions department helped me out. They explained that they BY LAW have to keep the agreement in place. I looked into this and found it to be true. Their monitoring stations require them to pay for the whole contract in order to monitor our home, so if they cancelled our agreement they would be out thousands of dollars, and be held legally responsible if anything happened to our home or my family. I understood that my anger was not to be directed at the company, as they were only trying to help me. We came up with a great solution to fix everything. The new homeowners moving into my old address decided to use the alarm service, and essentially took over the use of it and payments. Then a gentlemen in their resolution department ( I don't have his name on hand, but he was so helpful) spoke to our landlord at our new apartment and explained what the alarm service provided, and how valuable it was to add in. Our landlord allowed us to put the alarm in, and we now have an even lower rate than we did before!! The guy said that because of how professionally I worked with him, he was going to give us the same system and parts for only $25 a month, when we were paying nearly $40 a month before! As I read through this website and all the complaints about Safe Home, I realized they are all almost the same. That they scammed you, steal from you, and won't let you cancel. You don't have to be in that situation! Just call the resolution department and be nice to them! They are trying to help. They know you are mad and just are looking to get help. So try being nice to them and give them a chance to help you out. I know that if I didn't have an alarm system and something happened to my daughter or our dogs, I would never forgive myself. It's worth every penny and after how much they helped me I will stay with them for as long as possible and recommend everyone I know to Safe Home Security!

So you obviously work for them. How do I know this you ask?

Because you lied in this post. You did not do any research that they are liable about the home. They are not legally obligated to monitor the home once the customer requests to terminate the monitor the service. It becomes a forfeit of responsibility for the monitoring company.

Also, your monitoring station (Rapid Response in Syracuse I believe - see, I DID my research) has no such agreement where Safe Home Security pays the whole contract up front. In fact, your monitoring stations actually have NO IDEA what their contract situation is with you! You lying baffoons!! I wasn't going to comment until you posted lies and attempted to be a customer.

I know more about your company than you probably do. It is only obvious now that the employees there are just as deceitful as the owner!! Also, you are the *** of the earth for trying to use a scare tactic about daughters and dogs.

If i ever have to call Safe Home Security again, i will be sure to ask for the Resolutions people, and i will not be nice to them. They are lying pieces of filth.

So some jamokes in Safe Home Security's resolution department posts something on here to make it seem like they are the savior? Could you have made it more obvious???

This is pathetic.

You guys are probably the worst offenders of them all!! The only thing you guys "resolve" is the complex of finding new ways to lie to people.

Seriously, if you're calling into cancel, call the resolution department

As the owner of a company I will say that it is not true that Safe Home is committed to 3 years of monitoring with the company that they subcontract to monitor their clients. The author of this post might have been told that, but it is simply not true.

When a company installs equipment into a home they essentially finance the job and usually break even around the 3 year mark, depending on overhead. Labor, Insurance, marketing, there are many creation costs per client that the evergae consumer is not aware of. Allowing the new homeowner to take over the balance of monitoring on the existing system is a no brainer, and is no "Great job" by the resolution department. They have nothing to lose.

Based on my experience in this industry for about 14 years, I would never do business with Safe Home Security as a consumer, or a dealer.

Consumers need to read what they sign, because you are committing to that agreement. That is the purpose of signing it. Automatic renewals are very common, especially in the security industry and legal in most states.

There are also many companies that go month to month after the initial term. Support companies that do not have terms that you do not think are fair, and it will force companies to change the way they do business.

This writer must work for the company. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Finally I am supposed to get out of this contract after 6 years of paying for nothing. The company called me last night trying to talk me into staying with them and admitting I hadn't been monitored since 2007.

Now they want to "help". they were not wiling to help 3 years ago.
